SPARTACUS DRAWINGS - 1959
Van Sant was hired to create illustrations for a book about the making of the movie Spartacus (dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1959). With source material garnered through sketching the actors and action on the movie set, his drawings were also published in an illustrated edition of the Howard Fast novel on which the movie was based, exhibited by West Hollywood’s Galerie de Ville, and received a Golden Brush Award from Illustrators West.
