  • “Like the weather, people talk about civic improvement, but Prudential Federal chose to do something about it. Prudential Federal chose to make a real contribution, The new PFS Building gives Ogden a structure of lasting beauty and peaceful splendor.

As one enters the front Plaza from Washington Boulevard, one feels apart from the immediate vicinity. High travertine-like walls, extending throughout the block to Kiesel Avenue, create a self-contained environment. The eye rises to the towering pavilion roof overhead; explores shafts of light broken by a high trellis that almost appears to be free-floating. Lines of perspective close toward infinity broken only by sharp angles until the attention focuses on a pool with boulders carefully placed as if at random...a touch of nature in a world of order...on which bronze seagulls rest. Some contemplating their own reflections, others winging upward.

The seagulls, theme of Prudential Federal’s Main Office in Salt Lake City, were sculpted specially by California artist, Tom Van Sant, creator of the originals.

Contoured wood benches close by add to your enjoyment of the peaceful and quiet scene...A Van Sant wall mural portraying Wild Geese picks up the rust cast of the reddish wood and blends with the umber-colored tones of travertine and golden light coming from a nearby window.”

“Altogether a new experience in architecture and human values, Prudential Federal’s building and plaza are for all of Ogden and Northern Utah to enjoy. Please visit the mid-block ‘oasis in space’ soon, and get acquainted with Utah’s largest and friendliest financial institution.” [1]
