FLIGHT FORMS - 1976
A “film fragment” made by Tom Van Sant and award-winning filmmaker Ed Spiegel, thie full title of this work is: Flight Forms: The Improbable Sculpture of Tom Van Sant.
It begins in Tom’s studio where he is carving/sanding a wooden sculpture of a bird. Various of his bird sculptures are shown before the film cuts to shots of Van Sant’s kites, flying over mountains and into sand dunes, where the camera pulls into a red van and trailer driving on the sand. People get out and unload kites and parts for a caterpillar kite, which they construct and fly.
